The farm

Sant'Anna farm was funded in 1967 and started making cheese in 1986 using milk from its animals.

Sant'Anna farm has been practising organic agriculture since 1999. Sheep and dairy have been  managed according to organic standards since April 2002.

ICEA (Istituto per la Certificazione Etica e Ambientale) is the inspection body of the farm.

Forages and cereals for animal nutrition are produced in the farm's fields (160 ha).

FORAGES

Grazed forages  are the basis of sheep diet. Hay is an important feedstuff for sheep nutrition in winter.

Thw quality of milk and cheese depends mostly on forage quality. Haymaking and conservation of feedstuff is carefully performed by the farmers to assure the best quality characteristics of aliments.

CEREALS

Cereals are stored in a new storage system next to the sheepfold, built according to rationales for best storing in order to avoid mould growth.

The farm mill is located near the silos for cereal storage: flour to be given to the animals as supplementary food is prepared there.
